IMU gloves for sign language interpretation

People with visual and hearing impairments face communication challenges, and sign language serves as a bridge for them to communicate. However, there are limitations in the popularity and understanding of sign language, which hinders the development of inclusive communication. In the face of this problem, a smart glove called GloSign has been created, employing an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and flexible sensors to convert sign language into English.

The GloSign glove combines flexible sensors, accelerometers and gyroscopes to recognize hand gestures. Once the data is uploaded to the cloud, it can be quickly converted into text or speech.GloSign's results not only demonstrate the role of IMUs in gesture recognition, but also show the potential of embedded systems in the field of accessibility technology. The GloSign glove, which utilizes IMU technology, provides us with new solutions and inspirations in sign language translation and strengthens the ability of embedded systems to solve practical problems.
