IMU insoles for gait analysis

Gait analysis plays a crucial role in clinical diagnosis, but traditional motion capture systems have many inconveniences, such as high cost and complicated operation. Recently, Riglet et al. proposed an embedded IMU insole to capture gait parameters during daily activities. The insole system was validated by data recording of 30 healthy subjects walking on the ground and on a treadmill under different speed conditions in comparison with a standard motion capture system. The insoles in the study showed extremely high retest reliability and validity, highlighting their potential as a daily clinical gait analysis. The study demonstrated that this IMU insole is an efficient and convenient gait analysis tool that provides accurate and reliable parameters under real-world conditions, and is expected to play a significant role in the daily care management of patients.
